Why Vote for an Independent?

In his farewell address in 1796, George Washington warned against the dangers of a new and unstable phenomenon called the “political party” because it directly challenged the independence of the Parliament and the independent thought of Parliamentarians.

Some 200 years later, here in Australia, George Washington is being proven right – time and time again.

Party discipline and party unity will always prevail over community interests. And party affiliated Local Members quickly shelve important local issues when they conflict with the party agenda, leaving the community unrepresented.

The Parliament belongs to the people and it is time for the Blue Mountains to have a strong and progressive Local Member who will work tirelessly to voice the concerns and needs of our community in the NSW State Parliament.

Janet Mays is that person and, with a proven record of achievement in our community, she will deliver for the people of the Blue Mountains.

So, why vote for an Independent such as Janet Mays on March 26th 2011?

 ü        Janet will place our community interests over party interests;

 ü        Janet will be accountable to the community who elected her, not a faceless head office;

 ü        If elected, Janet will never be in opposition. Independents work with whoever is in government for the benefit of their electorate;

ü        By voting for Janet you know exactly what you are voting for – there are no hidden party policies or agendas;

ü        Janet understands our unique environment and will be a strong advocate for the Blue Mountains.

    Janet, I’ve gone double car sticker. And we are breaking out the Janet tee-shirt and will be wearing it from now on!
